Dr. Williams has 40 years professional experience in health services research and management. He has worked with the Rockefeller, Ford, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundations; city, state, and local governments; and major health care providers including 6 years as Chair, Division of Health Care Policy and Research, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He has held international (Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand) and domestic research awards from the above mentioned foundations and NIH. He has been a consultant to health insurers (e.g. Blue Cross Blue Shield) and private industry (e.g. IBM) in the US and governments abroad. Dr. Williams has published more than 90 refereed research articles and 6 books and monographs.
His research has focused on health policy and the quantitative assessment of health and medical outcomes including the costs of obtaining those outcomes for patients, families, and communities. His research has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, Medical Care, Journal of Pediatrics, HSR: Health Services Research, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, Clinical Pediatrics, Journal of Asthma, Cancer Nursing, Nursing Economics, Quality and Safety in Health Care, Journal of Urban Health, The Gerontologist, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Social Science Quarterly, Telemedicine and eHealth, and many other journals.
