MPH Tropical Public Health and Infectious Diseases, USF College of Public Health, 2000

Mr. Matthew Rollie received his MPH from the USF College of Public Health (COPH) in Tropical Public Health and Infectious Diseases in 2000.  He joined the COPH as a full time faculty member in 2000 with the USF Center for Biological Defense (CBD).  During his 7 year tenure as faculty administrator with the USF CBD, Mr. Rollie managed the largest contract at USF and 21 biodefense sub-contracts across Florida.  Mr. Rollie joined the Department of Global Health in 2007 where he currently serves as the Administrator for the Department.

As the Administrator for the Department, Mr. Rollie  assists with managing day to day operations of the largest department in the College of Public Health.  He develops and implements budget strategies for the department and oversees all student related activities within the department.  Mr. Rollie also actively pursues research grants within the Department and serves as Director of Operations for the Global Health Infectious Disease Research (GHIDR) Program.

In addition to Mr. Rollie’s administrative duties with the Department of Global Health, he is actively involved in sexually transmitted infection (STI) research.  In 1999 while completing his studies at the USF COPH, he was awarded an internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of STD Prevention.  This internship focused on the evaluation of policies related to screening for sexually transmitted infections in prisons, jails and juvenile detention centers.  The internship resulted in a proposal to develop an STI screening project of high risk youth entering the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC).  This project was funded by the National Institutes of Health in 2005, and this resulted in the first ever STI screening project at a juvenile assessment center.  The results from this study are currently in press, and STI screening at the Hillsborough County JAC is now a routine service.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for Tampa Crossroads.
