Dr. Azizan Azizan joined the Global Health Department at the USF College of Public Health (COPH) in the fall semester of 2002, as an Assistant professor. Dr. Azizan is the course director and instructor for 2 courses: Microbiology for Healthcare workers (PHC 6562-901), Exotic and Emerging Infectious Diseases (PHC 6510-901). These two courses are offered during the fall semester. Dr. Azizan research training is in the area of Medical Microbiology, and Molecular Biology. In research, Dr. Azizan is interested in studying the immunopathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The specific research areas of her interest is to study the effect of dengue virus and cytokines on endothelial cell cellular expression, and to establish cytokine profiles for infections associated with the different dengue serotypes and genotypes. The most recent project done in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) resulted in a publication that will be published by the Journal of Virological methods. Another manuscript that is currently being prepared for another related project conducted at the DOH is entitled "Molecular Epidemiology of norovirus in Florida, 2001-2005". Dr. Azizan is also in the preliminary stages of collaboration with Dr. Dennis Kyle, also from the Department of Global Health, whose research interest is in the area of anti-malarial drugs. Dr. Azizan mentors many doctoral (Ph.D.) and MSPH (Master of science in Public Health) students, as well supervises special projects and field experiences for many MPH (Masters of Public Health) students. Dr. Azizan is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. |
