Welcome to the Department of
Thomas Unnasch, Ph.DThank you for visiting the website for the Department of Global Health in the University of South Florida's College of Public Health! We are a large and diverse department that is united around the central theme of improving the health and lives of the poorest people on the planet. We offer MPH, MSPH, DrPH and PhD degrees in Global Communicable Diseases, Global Health Practice, Global Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, Infection Control and Genetic Counseling. Our faculty are also actively involved in the Global Center for Infectious Disease Research (GHIDR). Our Genetic Counseling program is the first such program in the state of Florida accredited by the Accreditation Counsel for Genetic Counseling. Our department is the home of several highly productive researchers who are using cutting edge molecular genetic techniques to study basic molecular processes in toxoplasma (Dr. White), malaria (Drs. Adams & Nutminga) and the human filarial infections (Dr. Unnasch). We also have strong research programs that concentrate on the ecology of arboviral infections here in Florida (Drs. Unnasch & Novak) and the use of remote sensing methods to predict habitats for various tropical diseases worldwide (Drs. Novak & Jacob). Last, but not least, we also have research programs looking at the chronic health problems (Drs. Corvin & Hoare) that are associated with development itself.
Please take a moment to view the tabs in the upper left hand menu to learn more about our faculty and their specific research interests, academic concentrations and available degree programs, research centers and institutes, as well as resources for current students.
