Vision

The Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies is the first choice in the nation for maternal and child health research, education and service for scholars, practitioners, policy-makers, advocates, families and students.

Mission:

We integrate and apply the best in research, education and service to promote and protect the health and well-being of mothers, babies and families so that all babies are born healthy and remain as healthy as possible throughout their lives.

Created as a non-profit organization in 1996, today The Chiles Center is within the College of Public Health, which is part of USF Health at the University of South Florida, and is under the direction of Dean of the College of Public Health and Interim Center Director, Donna Petersen, MHS, ScD.

The Chiles Center is dedicated to determining the most effective strategies, programs and systems for reducing illness and death among mothers, their infants and young children.

IIt brings together experts in health care, program design and evaluation, and maternal and infant care from Florida universities and other state, national and international programs.

Today, through the unified efforts of advocates the Center has become a beacon of hope for healthier mothers and children throughout Florida, and the nation.
