Dr. Coreil joined the College of Public Health at USF in 1987. Trained in medical anthropology and social-behavioral sciences, Dr. Coreil's areas of research include infectious diseases, women's health, illness support groups and qualitative research methods. She has conducted sociomedical and ethnographic research among Haitian Americans and Hispanics, in addition to numerous studies of cultural factors and health in Haiti over the past 30 years. Her current projects include studies of stigma and tuberculosis among Haitians in Florida and Haiti, and a study of cultural differences among breast cancer support groups for African-American, Latina and Anglo women. Dr. Coreil teaches graduate courses on social theory, behavioral factors in health, qualitative methods, and global health.
