About Health Education
Health educators help people adopt self-care practices and healthy lifestyles. Health Educators:
- Promote, maintain and improve individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors
- Collect and analyze data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments
- Play a pivotal role in social and political advocacy for health and social issues
- Serve as a resource to assist individuals, other professionals, or communities and administer fiscal resources for health education programs.

The USF College of Public Health's doctoral program in health education ranks second overall in the country - Up from its 10th-place ranking four years ago, an article in the May/June 2004 issue of the American Journal of Health Education reports. The program earned top spot on the list for the scholarly achievements and support of its students. Read more here.

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
Students who complete a degree in Public Health Education are eligible to sit for the Certified Health Educaiton Specialist (CHES) examination. The CHES designation after a health educator's name is an indication of professional competency and commitment to continued professional development.
