Dr. Eric R. Buhi has maintained a longstanding interest in improving the sexual health of young people. Since 2006, he has served as assistant professor and, more recently, director of the Collaborative for Research Understanding Sexual Health (CRUSH) at the University of South Florida's College of Public Health in Tampa. Dr. Buhi's current research focuses on two main issues related to young people, technology, and sexual health: 1) the HIV/STI risks of meeting Internet sex partners and 2) how individuals find and evaluate sexual health information online. He is evaluator on a SAMHSA-funded program designed to prevent HIV, Hepatitis, and substance abuse among rural youth and investigator on a NIH-funded study assessing men's cognitive and emotional responses to HPV diagnoses. Dr. Buhi earned a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and M.P.H. from Indiana University-Bloomington.

Before joining USF, Dr. Buhi was part of a team that carried out a multi-phase, multi-method evaluation of Title V funded abstinence-only-until-marriage education programs in Texas. On this project, his research has encompassed examining the processes and effects of sexual abstinence education programs, including changes in youth participants' sexual behaviors and factors that may influence these behaviors such as intentions and beliefs regarding sex before marriage. Also, funded by the US Department of Justice, Dr. Buhi has served as evaluator for a coordinated university-wide effort, at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, aimed at preventing violence against women. In this capacity, his primary focus has been investigating the factors which place college men at a higher risk for perpetrating sexual violence and assessing an initiative to reduce such violence.

Dr. Buhi teaches Evaluation Methods in Community Health and Case Studies in Quantitative Analysis of Public Health Data, and serves as course coordinator for Sex, Health, and Decision-Making.

Dr. Buhi is a member of the Board for the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. His professional service includes manuscript reviews for the American Journal of Health Behavior, American Journal of Health Education, Health Education & Behavior, Journal of Adolescent Health, Journal of American College Health, Journal of School Health, and The Journal of Sex Research.
