Kevin B. Sneed, PharmD
Dean, University of South Florida College of Pharmacy/USF Health

Dr. Sneed is the founding Dean of the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy, and a tenured Associate Professor in the USF Department of Family Medicine. He was previously a tenured Associate Professor with the Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a concentration in Microbiology from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Sneed received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy, where he received several clinical and leadership awards. He completed an Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Practice Specialty Residency at Bay Pines Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.

Dr. Sneed’s research interests include the pharmacological treatment of patients with Cardio-Metabolic Disorders, and examining Health Care Disparities. He is a natural lecturer on both topics. Recent research interests include reviewing the causes of Statin-Induced Myalgias, and possible contributing pharmacogenomic factors. He is a Co-Director of the Community Outreach and Engagement Core (CEOC) in the Center for Equal Health, a Center of Excellence partnership between USF Health and the Moffitt Cancer Center. He is very active in community healthcare initiatives. He also directs a community initiative known as IN-SHAPE, which is addressing cardiovascular disparities in African-American and Hispanic communities in Tampa, FL. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has participated in numerous grant projects and clinical trials.

Dr. Sneed is Chairman of the Cultural Health Initiatives Committee for the American Heart Association- Greater Southeast Affiliate. He also serves on a national advisory board with Humana, Inc., the Board of Directors with the Sickle Cell Anemia Association of Hillsborough County, the Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center (AHEC), and the University of South Florida Diabetes Education Council Advisory Board. He participates in many community endeavors on an annual basis, most notably the Florida Cancer Education Network Men’s Health Forum in Tampa, FL. Dr. Sneed is very active in national and state organizations, among which include NPHA, ASHP, AACP, FPA, FSHP, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.


Amy H. Schwartz, PharmD, BCPS
Associate Dean for Academic & Clinical Affairs

Education
Dr. Schwartz received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1988, and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1994.

Professional Experience
From 1995 through 2000 Dr. Schwartz was a faculty member at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy during which time she developed clinical pharmacy services within a multi-specialty physician group practice. The Pharmacotherapy Clinic, a pharmacist-managed program, involved approximately 250 lives, the majority of whom were referred for Cardiovascular Risk Management. In 2001 Dr. Schwartz joined the faculty of Creighton University, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions where she was involved with the development of the Virtual Mentor Program for the newly developed web-based PharmD Pathway. Dr. Schwartz joined the faculty at the University of Southern Nevada College of Pharmacy in 2003 and held the position of Assistant Dean for Clinical Programs through 2005. Responsibilities included the administrative oversight of experiential training, preceptor development, residency development and continuing education. In July 2005 Dr. Schwartz spearheaded the development of post-graduate educational programming for the USN College of Pharmacy. From July 2006 through June 2010 Dr. Schwartz was Assistant Dean and Director of the Cooperative Pharmacy Program (CPP), a joint venture between the University of Texas – Pan American and the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. The mission of the CPP is to bring pharmacy education to an underserved region of Texas. The CPP also sought (through faculty and student initiatives) to enhance the awareness of pharmacy services throughout the region. Dr. Schwartz’s professional practice experiences have encompassed a variety of environments including community/retail, hospital, home health and pharmaceutical industry.

Didactic Responsibilities
Didactic responsibilities have included pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacology (pharmacy, physician assistant and nurse practitioner students), drug information, literature evaluation and research methods, professional development, experiential training, and specialty elective courses in advanced therapeutics, physical assessment, practice development and patient management.

Research Focus
Research interests include the evaluation of clinical services, professional socialization, and academic program assessment.

Yashwant Pathak, M Pharm, EMBA, MS (Conflict Management), PhD

Education
Yashwant Pathak has BPharm, MPharm, and PhD in Pharmaceutics from Nagpur University in India and postdoctoral training at Royal Free Hospital, London, UK, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and American Heart Fellowship at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. He completed his Executive MBA and MS in Conflict Management at Sullivan University, Louisville, KY, USA.

Professional Experience
Dr. Yashwant has worked in academics for over 15 years in various capacities -- as Chair and Professor and later as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean of Research, and presently as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of South Florida (USF) College of Pharmacy, Tampa, Florida. He also directed the Center for Nanotechnology Education, Research and Applications (CENTRA) for two years. Here at USF Tampa he is associated with Nanotechnology Education and Research Center in College of Engineering and Translational Nanomedicine Center in the College of Medicine. He has several years of Industrial experience, the last job he had was director of R and D for formulation and drug delivery systems. Yashwant has over 100 research publications in many peer reviewed journals, abstracts, review articles and over 20 chapters in many books, and in pharmaceutical education. He has edited 4 books in Nanotechnology, 2 books in Nutraceuticals and many books in cultural studies. He has received several research grants, the recent one for Antioxidant nano delivery systems in neurodegenerative diseases.

Personal
Dr. Pathak is actively involved in many professional organizations as well as cultural organizations and has organized many conferences in professional and cultural areas. He has travelled over 70 countries for professional and cultural work. His recent area of interest is eastern and indigenous perspectives in global sustainability and conflict resolution besides nanotechnology and Nutraceuticals and complimentary medicines.

Professional Experience
Heather Petrelli comes to us from LECOM School of Pharmacy where she was an inaugural faculty member, the Director of Admissions and Student Services, and the Director of Assessment and Faculty Development. Her most recent previous position was Assistant Dean of Student Services at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy. Other previous positions include the Director of Academic Support and Career Services at Trinity University, and Psychological Counselor with Coppin University in Baltimore Maryland. Her teaching experience includes lecture in effective communications, medication adherence, social and behavioral aspects of pharmaceutical care, death and dying, general psychology, techniques of counseling, African American history, English composition, career development, freshman seminar, and instruction methods for peer tutoring.

Mrs. Petrelli began her student affairs career in residential life in 1991. Since that time, she has had the opportunity to focus on access to education and serving under-represented populations in the areas of counseling, academic support, academic advising, disability services, admissions, experiential learning, career services, records & registration, financial aid, residential life, and study abroad. She also has several years experience counseling the dually diagnosed and children, adolescents, and adults in the areas of bereavement and substance abuse prior to her entrance into higher education. She is an active member of the American Association of Colleges and Pharmacy, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, National Career Development Association, National Tutoring Association, and the Association of Higher Education and Disability.

Angela M. Hill, Pharm.D., BCPP
Chair of Pharmacy Practice

Education
Dr. Hill received her Pharm.D. from Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy in 1992. She completed a residency in 1997 in Neurology at the Neuroscience Foundation Inc. in Gainesville, Florida under the direction of  Edric Bates, Pharm.D., MS as the first and only Dr. B.J. Wilder Pharmacy Resident. She became board certified in psychiatry in 1998. She holds certificates in smoking cessation, and Medication Therapy Management.

Professional Experience
Dr. Hill joined Florida A&M University’s College of Pharmacy in 1992 as an Assistant Professor.  Her primary duties were to provide clinical pharmacy services and experiential education at Florida State Hospital. While there, she began her clinical research activities in mental health, and facilitating clinics such  the Clozaril®  Clinic and later the Neuroleptic Review and Seizure Clinics. In addition to Florida State Hospital,  Dr. Hill has provided clinical pharmacy services and experiential training at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, Tallahassee Veterans Administration, and Apalachee Health Center in Tallahassee, Florida.  Prior to joining USF as the Chair of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Hill progressed  to the rank of professor at Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy.  She served as the Division Director for the Tallahassee Pharmacy Practice Campus from 1997 until her departure to University of South Florida. Under her guidance, she initiated and assisted in the management of contract pharmacies for the College.  She has worked in retail pharmacy, and provided consultant pharmacy services for Medicaid, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, CVS Pharmacy, and Kroger Pharmaceuticals to name a few.  She is one of the pioneers of pharmacists’ involvement in Memory Disorder Clinics,  and has been instrumental in providing community, caregiver, and healthcare education to individuals since 1997 in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and psychiatric disorders.  Dr. Hill has precepted pharmacy residents and/or established programs for several different residency programs since 1999. Didactic responsibilities have included pharmacotherapeutics, Alternative Medicine, Patient Counseling Skills, Professional Development, drug information, research methods, experiential training (psychiatry, geriatrics, MTM, internal medicine),  practice development, and patient management. 

Research Focus
Research interests include Alzheimer’s disease, pharmacogenomics, depression, herbal medicine and  medication adherence.

Shufeng Zhou, MD, PhD

Dr Zhou is presently working for University of South Florida College of Pharmacy as a professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Professor Zhou completed his clinical medical training in China in 1989 and his PhD and postdoctoral training at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2002, Dr Zhou has served as a faculty member for the National University of Singapore, Queensland University of Technology, and RMIT University.

Professor Zhou has published more than 320 peer-reviewed papers in various pharmacy, pharmacology, and medicine journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Clinical Cancer Research. He has also published 12 books and book chapters and more than 160 conference abstracts. His work has been cited more than 4,200 times by other colleagues. He has received more than US$5.0 million grants from various government funding bodies and industries. To date, he has trained 24 PhD students, 12 MSc/Honors students and 8 postdoctoral staff.

Dr Zhou serves as an editor for Drug, Healthcare and Patient Safety, Drug Metabolism Letters, and Current Drug Metabolism and is a reviewer for numerous medical and pharmacological journals. Dr Zhou has given more than 70 invited seminars/keynote presentations to a variety of institutes, government agencies, and high-profile international conferences, he is a recipient of several teaching and research awards, a member of several national and international professional societies, an a visiting professor of multiple universities.

Dr Zhou’s major research interests are drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics, nanomedicine, and herbal medicines.

Jiazhi Sun, MD

Dr. Jiazhi Sun has been trained in the field of basic medical science and molecular biology and received M.D. degree from Peking University in 1986. After completing his residency and fellowship training at Peking University in 1990 and graduate studies on targeting Q-binding protein into yeast mitochondria at West Virginia University in 1994, he received two-terms postdoc training at the University of Pittsburgh and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in the field of Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Drug Discovery from 1994 to 2003.
 
Professional Experience
He currently holds joint Assistant Professor of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of College of Pharmacy and Department of Pathology of College of Medicine at University of South Florida. His research focuses on Ras and ER signaling study, HDL-Receptor RNA alternative processing, and K-Ras, BH3 protein and VDR/ER drug discovery targeting by utilizing Target-Guided Synthesis (TGS) approach and conventional intervention. Dr. Sun has more than 15-year professional experience in academic field including Drug Discovery, Signal Transduction, Apoptosis, Cancer Biology and Cardiovascular field, also leading collaborative Institutional and Pharmaceutical Industry rational design/targeted-therapeutic approach and development of FTI, GGTI and Kinase inhibitors (tyrosine, serine/threonine and sphingosine) and nuclear hormone receptor mimics as well as BH3-mimics as drug candidates and “Chemical-Genetics” tool/model. Since 1994, he has been involved in multiple programs yielding two U.S. patents, more than 30 peer-reviewed papers, book chapter, numerous awards including AFLAC Scholar in Cancer Research Award sponsored by American Association of Cancer Research and more than 30 scientific professional presentations.

Umesh Jinwal, PhD

Dr. Jinwal received his PhD degree in Biotechnology from the Central Drug Research Institute, Barkatullah University, India in 2003.
 
Professional Experience
Dr. Jinwal is an Assistant professor and course coordinator in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USF College of Pharmacy. Dr. Jinwal completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and University of South Florida. Prior to joining the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Jinwal served as faculty member for the USF College of Medicine, at the University of South Florida. Dr. Jinwal has published 25 peer-reviewed papers in top pharmacology and medicine journals, 15 novel gene sequences in the NCBI GenBank and 51 abstracts in various scientific meetings. He has also applied for a patent. Based on his successful research work he has been awarded the New Investigator Research Grant from the Alzheimer’s Association. Dr. Jinwal is serving as a reviewer for the Alzheimer’s Association since 2009. Dr. Jinwal has given invited seminars to a variety of institutes and conferences. He is also a member several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society for Neuroscience, and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is also a life member of the Association of Microbiologists, India.

Ms. Brown graduated in 1998 from University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She is completing coursework at USF towards a master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in behavioral health.

Professional Experience
Ms. Brown is the Director of Experiential Programs of the University Of South Florida School Of Pharmacy. She was previously the Coordinator of Student Affairs at Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tampa Division, a position she held for ten years. As coordinator, she was responsible for APPE rotation scheduling, academic advising and counseling, and liaison between adjunct faculty and the College of Pharmacy.
Nazach Rodriguez-Snapp, MSW, MPH

Professional Experience
Mrs. Rodriguez-Snapp is a skilled professional with nine years of experience. In July 2010, Mrs. Snapp joined the USF College of Pharmacy as the Director of Admissions. Her higher education experience began in 2003 when she served as an Adjunct Instructor with the University at Albany in Albany, NY where she supervised social work students during their clinical internship. In 2006, Mrs. Snapp joined the USF Health College of Medicine Office of Student Diversity and Enrichment. In this role she was responsible for the identification, recruitment and retention of underrepresented and disadvantaged students in medicine and coordinating diversity in medical education curricular and co-curricular activities. Mrs. Snapp worked in collaboration with the MD Admissions Office involved in a variety of admissions-related activities to include yet not limited to reviewing and making initial admission recommendations for regular decision applications, coordinating on campus recruitment events, developing recruitment and advising procedures as well as recruitment publications, and serving as interim coordinator of the BS/MD program. In addition to her role within the College of Medicine, Mrs. Snapp has served as an Adjunct Instructor in the College of Public Health and School of Social Work.

Before entering higher education, Mrs. Snapp was a public health social worker with a focus on using an epidemiologic approach to identify and address social problems that affect the health status and social functioning of populations. She has experience in the delivery of clinical and health education services to diverse and medically underserved populations, implementation of interventions that address primary and tertiary prevention at multiple levels, design and facilitation of training curricula for health care and human service professional, and coordination of public health research activities.


Research Focus
Past research projects have included the design and development of effective media campaigns to promote preconceptional use of folic acid among migrant Hispanic women and the development of culturally, linguistically, and literacy relevant cancer communications

Amanda DeBruin, PharmD, BCPS, CGP
Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice

Education
Dr. DeBruin graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Molecular Biology and later earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP-accredited Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Practice Specialty Residency at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

Professional Experience
Dr. DeBruin is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice with the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy and an Assistant Professor and Clinical Pharmacist in the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Additionally she serves as Coordinator for the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) within the USF College of Pharmacy. Previous to joining USF, Dr. DeBruin served as an Assistant Professor with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri, with a pharmacist-managed primary care clinical practice at the John Cochran VA Medical Center.

Additionally, Dr. DeBruin has clinical practice experience in inpatient acute care in the community hospital setting, as well as managed care experience managing a Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program for a national Medicare and Medicaid provider. She has served as an experiential preceptor for both introductory and advanced practice pharmacy students in the ambulatory care, hospital, and managed care settings. She has also served as preceptor for multiple PGY1 pharmacy residency programs in various settings, and developed a PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency Program which achieved ASHP accreditation.

Dr. DeBruin is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, certified geriatric pharmacist, as well as a licensed consultant pharmacist.

Daniel C. Lee, PhD
Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Science

Education
Dr. Lee received his B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1999 at Lincoln University, Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmacology/ Toxicology at Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2005.

Professional Experience
Dr. Lee’s postdoctoral work at the University of South Florida focused on novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease models and the role of inflammation on Tau and amyloid beta pathology. Dr. Lee has received numerous accolades at USF including the USF Research Interdisciplinary Post-doctoral Scholar Outstanding Presentation Award, Symposium Winner three times and seven travel awards to international conferences. He has published in ten peer reviewed journals and has presented his research at 15 international conferences. His doctoral work was in the area of Parkinson’s disease and lysosomal dysregulation. Previous work over ten years was in hematology, chemistry, pathology, cancer, apoptosis, and inflammation at VA Medical Center PA, Institute for Cellular Therapeutics PA, Eli Lilly and Company IN.

Dr. Lee is a member of the Society for Neuroscience and The American Society for Neural Therapy and Repair, and has served as a Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology MARC peer mentor since 2006.

Medical Disciplines & Research Focus
Current research interest includes the role of ageing, neuroinflammation, and microglia activation in various neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Glenn Whelan, PharmD, Director of Academic Technologies
Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice

Education
Dr. Whelan graduated from the University of Florida in 1999 earning a Doctorate of Pharmacy (with honors). Dr. Whelan completed a clinical pharmacology fellowship from Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Professional Experience
Dr. Whelan is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy and serves as Director of Technology within the College. Additionally, Dr. Whelan serves as an instructor for pharmacology courses with the College of Nursing and College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. He is also the manager of the Clinical Investigational Research Pharmacy. Dr. Whelan is currently involved with building a clinical pharamcokinetics and pharmacogenomics laboratory. Dr. Whelan serves on several committees and roles within the administration at the College of Pharmacy, and holds a faculty seat with the Division of Asthma/Allergy/Immunology at USF.

Prior to joining USF, Dr. Whelan was a medical director at ClineDavis & Mann in Manhattan, NY, where he was involved in the platform development of drugs which were coming to market, as well as managing several portfolios of drugs which were currently on the market. Dr. Whelan worked as a medical liaison with AstraZeneca, LLP, in which he specialized in the respiratory therapeutic area managing the drugs relevant to respiratory diseases. Prior to this Dr. Whelan worked as a clinical pharmacist specialist at National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, CO, where he worked and published in the areas of asthma/allergy/immunology, and infectious disease.

Practice/Research interests
Asthma/allergy/immunology, pulmonary related diseases, and infectious diseases. Therapeutic drug monitoring/pharmacokinetics are included for these areas. Dr. Whelan has research interests which involve the aforementioned disease states, while focusing on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics of the drugs involved. Dr. Whelan also serves as the program Director of Academic Technology

Marianne Koenig B.S., PharmD, BCPS
Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice

Education
Dr. Koenig received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Duquesne University and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina. She has completed an Academic Teaching and Research Fellowship at Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. In addition, Dr. Koenig is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy and has completed the American Pharmacists Association National Certificate program “Pharmaceutical Care for Patients with Diabetes” and “Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery”.

Ms. Barrett graduated from Cleary College, Ypsilanti, Michigan, with an Associate degree in Business Administration.

Professional Experience
Ms. Barrett has worked for the University of South Florida since September, 2010. Her position is Administrative Specialist to the department of Student Affairs and Assessment for the College of Pharmacy. Her responsibilities include travel arrangements, purchasing, calendar management, and all primary administrative support for the Student Affairs and Assessment department and support to the Assistant Dean.

Before coming to USF, Ms. Barrett worked as the Administrative Coordinator to the Dean of Academic Affairs, DeVry University, Tinley Park, Illinois, and as the Department Coordinator for the Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering department of Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois

Jacqueline Grosser, B.S.
Admissions Advisor

Education

Ms. Grosser has a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Lowell in Business Administration.

Professional Experience
Ms. Grosser has worked for the University of South Florida since November, 2010. Her position is Admissions Advisor Recruiter for the College of Pharmacy. Her responsibilities include the data management of Admissions to include collecting, processing, and maintaining records and administrative information including applications and student files. She will also be responsible for developing and maintaining recruitment and admissions databases used to collect and analyze data.

Before coming to USF, Ms. Grosser worked as an Admissions Counselor at LECOM Bradenton School of Pharmacy. While there she gained experience in maintaining and analyzing applications to the doctor of pharmacy program in addition to providing counseling to prospective and matriculating students. She provided direct support to the Director of Student Affairs, prepared weekly reports on the admissions process for the School of Pharmacy, and planned and implemented special events

 
Education
Dr. Arric received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas in 2011. She completed her Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1997, both from Oklahoma State University.
 
Professional Experience
Dr. Arric has worked in a variety of roles in education and joined the University of South Florida, College of Pharmacy as the Student Programs Manager in January 2011. Prior to coming to USF she was the Coordinator of Graduate Studies for the Academic Partnerships program in the College of Education at Lamar University. Other previous positions include, Programs Coordinator for two federal Department of Labor, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grant programs at Oklahoma State University, and Counselor for the federal Department of Education, Educational Talent Search grant at Rogers State University. She has assisted students in successfully navigating through the higher education system through admissions, advising, career exploration, personal counseling, and program development. Dr. Arric has also worked in the community with at-risk clients in the areas of juvenile probation and mental health. In addition, Dr. Arric is a certified teacher and school counselor in Texas and Oklahoma. She is an active member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the National Academic Advising Association, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

Kathy R. Pendergrass
Administrative Specialist, Dean's Office

Education
Mrs. Pendergrass holds an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration from Hillsborough Community College and is currently enrolled at the University of South Florida, Tampa and has a Certificate from USF in the Fundamentals of Supervision.

Professional Experience
Mrs. Pendergrass joined the staff at the University of South Florida in December, 2007. She is currently the Administrative Specialist to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy.

Mrs. Pendergrass spent 12 years in a corporate environment supporting upper-level management and executives, and another 12 years at The College of William and Mary in Virginia -- 6 years in student affairs and 6 years as the department administrator for an academic department.

Prior to joining the College of Pharmacy she provided direct support to the Chair of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine at USF; she also supported several physicians and the department administrator where she coordinated and arranged meetings and travel, maintained several calendars, composed correspondence, and processed purchase orders, and served as the Affiliate Faculty Program and Attendance and Leave Coordinator. Mrs. Pendergrass has a good understanding of the policies and procedures for USF and the USF Physician’s Group.

At USF Mrs. Pendergrass served on the Staff Senate and as a member of the President’s Substance Education and Awareness Team (SEAT-Tampa).

Maria H. Rutter, B.S.
Manager, Fiscal & Business Administration

Education
Ms. Rutter graduated in 1981 from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.

Professional Experience
Ms. Rutter has worked at the University of South Florida since 1997. Her position has been in the office of the Vice President for USF Health and Dean of the College of Medicine. She is currently the Manager for Fiscal and Business Administration for the College of Pharmacy. She is knowledgeable about the policies and procedures of the university; coordinated special events; provided assistance and support to the Associate VP for Strategic Planning and Policy; provided human resources responsibilities with hiring personnel, payroll and attendance and leave coordination. She has acted as liaison for many projects, consultants, and administrative personnel.

Before coming to USF, Ms. Rutter worked in pharmaceutical research as a senior research assistant primarily exploring drugs used to treat eye diseases. After graduating from college her first position was as a research assistant in corneal physiology and biophysics.

Botija Zephir
Administrative Specialist, Department of Pharmacy Practice

Ms. Zephir attended the Georgia College and State University and was in the Management Information Systems B.A. program. She is currently enrolled to complete her degree.

Experience
Ms. Zephir is currently the Administrative Specialist to the Chair of Pharmacy Practice for the College of Pharmacy at the University of South Florida. She comes from a strong Communications background. She served 7 years as a Communications Technician in the United States Air Force. She provided communications as well as administrative support to Special Forces troops while deployed to Afghanistan.

Prior to her joining the USF team, Ms. Zephir was an Information Specialist with Community Coordinated Care for Children in Orlando, Florida where she processed and managed over 60 childcare centers.

Records and Registration Specialist

Was enrolled in the B.S. Business program at Johns Hopkins University

Currently the Records and Registration Specialist for the College of Pharmacy. Has over 10 years experience in Student Services. Prior to USF, worked at Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University in various capacities within Student Services. Most recently, served as a Student Services Adviser to assist students with Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, and Billing

Laquanda Robinson, M.Ed

Ms. Robinson graduated from University of Missouri-St. Louis with a Masters in Adult and Higher Education Administration. Ms. Robinson also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Criminology from Maryville University of St. Louis Missouri.

Ms. Robinson has joined the University of South Florida in April 2011. Currently she is the Financial Aid Counselor for the College of Pharmacy. Her experience with Financial Aid varies from working within the regulations of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), offered advising for the negotiation of repayment agrements and coordinated the disbursment funds.She provides collaborates with other entities of Student Affairs to design the best student servicing Financial Aid Program. Prior to coming to USF Ms. Robinson worked as a Financial Aid Advisor. In this position her focus was providing counseling to students to ensure their understanding of aid eligibility. She also worked with the Assistant Director for the training of future Advisors
