The DNSO was formed in spring 2009 to address the needs of the doctoral students in the PhD and DNP programs at USF. The DNSO coordinates monthly meetings to provide an opportunity for students and faculty to interact outside the classroom setting. The business of the organization is conducted during monthly meetings, as well as, opportunities to learn about college, campus, and community resources to aid in student success. Invited speakers include but are not limited to current faculty, students, and alumni who may discuss their current research, study tips, and advice on beginning their career as a doctoral graduate. Meeting topics are decided on by the DNSO E-board, combined with welcomed student feedback. The monthly meetings also allow an avenue to discuss program specific information so students and faculty can stay up-to-date on program policies and guidelines. The DNSO welcomes anyone to attend meetings, including prospective students and current members.
Members of the DNSO also provide mentoring opportunities to new students as they begin their doctoral studies. We attend the annual College of Nursing Doctoral New Student Orientation and the College of Nursing Doctoral Open House for prospective students.

Meetings are scheduled at the beginning of each semester based on student feedback/surveys and occur when the majority are available to attend. Meetings generally occur during the lunch hour (12 - 1 pm), take place in the college, and food is provided.
DNSO will also host a variety of events during each semester to facilitate student success in and out of the classroom and provide for peer-to-peer interaction/networking.
An up-to-date schedule of the current semester meetings/events can be found in the doctoral student lounge (MDN 1013), in Canvas (announcements are posted by CON advisors), via email at the beginning of each semester (sent to CON faculty and students) and posted on the DNSO BullSync page.
