Creating Access to Registered Nurse Education for Veterans (V-CARE)

Cumulative Award:

Rita D’Aoust

The USF CON’s V-CARE initiative (Creating Access to Registered Nurse Education for Veterans) will increase the enrollment of military service members and veterans in the bachelor of science in nursing program (VBSN), support their academic progression and graduation, and facilitate successful completion of the NCLEX-RN examination and employment as a registered nurse. V-CARE faculty are, themselves, military veterans and/or are recognized experts in military health. We will capitalize on the strengths, skills and experiences of veterans and use our college’s established Clinical Collaborative as priority training sites to address the needs of patients with health disparities.

Objective 1: Optimize partnerships to ensure faculty and clinical preceptor preparation to support VBSN students.

Objective 2: Recognize and grant credit for military training to accelerate BSN education.

Objective 3: Recruit, enroll and educate service members and veterans in V-CARE.

Objective 4: Support and facilitate student academic and professional licensure success.

Objective 5: Graduate and facilitate employment of veteran BSN students.

Objective 6: Disseminate lessons learned and program outcomes.
