Doctoral Programs

BS-DNP Dual Oncology/Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Concentration

An Oncology/Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with a graduate degree in nursing prepared to provide patient-centered, quality care to the adult and older adult population, including the frail elderly, across the wellness-illness continuum with a focus in oncology (National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, 2010; Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, 2009). Students who complete the Oncology/Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program will be poised to provide primary care and oncology-related care to patients in a variety of acute and ambulatory care settings. Graduate preparation at the doctoral level prepares students to exercise advanced levels of clinical judgment, systems thinking, and responsibility and accountability in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies to improve individual patient and population health outcomes.

Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification as Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. In addition, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner examination administered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.
