Doctor of Nursing Practice

BS-DNP Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Concentration

An Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with a graduate degree in nursing prepared to provide patient-centered, quality care to the adult and older adult population, including the frail elderly, across the wellness-illness continuum with a focus on acute illness care (National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, 2012). Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners work in a variety of acute and ambulatory care settings. Their scope of practice includes evaluation and management of patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic illness and/or injury. Graduate preparation at the doctoral level prepares Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners to exercise advanced levels of clinical judgment, systems thinking, and responsibility and accountability in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies to improve individual patient and population health outcomes.

Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification as Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
