All of Florida's children will have access to high quality health care coverage.

Florida Covering Kids & Families (FL-CKF) works collaboratively with Florida agencies and stakeholders to advocate and conduct outreach for Florida KidCare health insurance programs. The initiative aims to foster and facilitate innovative methods for enrolling and retaining eligible children in Florida's publicly funded insurance programs. FL-CKF also maintains strong channels of communication with local communities in order to reduce health disparities for special populations.

Among the tens of millions of uninsured Americans, there are significant numbers of children who are currently eligible for publicly funded health care coverage programs, but are not enrolled. Approximately 45 million Americans are uninsured, including 8 million children. Over half of these uninsured children are Hispanic or African American. Many uninsured children are eligible for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Due to policy and procedural barriers and a lack of knowledge about public health coverage programs, thousands of uninsured, but eligible children are not enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP. Beginning with the Medicaid expansions during the late 1980's, SCHIP's enactment by Congress in 1997 and in recent years with the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA), the opportunities for coverage have expanded. As of May 1, 2010, all 50 states and the District of Columbia administer a CHIP program, and 47 states have expanded eligibility for children in households at or above 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), which is approximately $44,700 annually for a family of four.

For over ten years, FL-CKF has worked to ensure that all of Florida's eligible, uninsured children are enrolled in Florida's Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) - called Florida KidCare. Covering Kids & Families is originally a national initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
