Julie A. Jacobson, MD ’94 receives the 2014 University of South Florida College of Medicine Alumni Society Distinguished Physician Alumnus Award
Project World Health - USF Health medical students, faculty and community volunteers were recognized for their service in the Dominican Republic.
A scholarship was established to recognize education leader, Dr. John Sinnott.

Lewis Barness, MD
Lewis A. Barness, MD, a father of modern pediatrics, the founder of the USF Department of Pediatrics, a teacher to generations of physicians, and a groundbreaking researcher of infant nutrition, died Nov. 18, 2013. He was 92.
Karl Altenburger, MD '74
Karl Marion Altenburger, MD ’74 opened his medical practice, Allergy and Asthma Care of Florida and practiced medicine at the facility for more than 25 years until he retired six years ago. Karl served as USF COM Alumni Society President from 1983-1987. He also remained active in the Florida Medical Association. He died on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He was 64.
