Message from the Dean

Dr. Kevin Sneed

The profession of pharmacy is currently interconnected with all aspects of healthcare throughout the nation. In recent years, nearly all health-related educational associations have called for an interprofessional approach to healthcare. The role of the pharmacist is currently changing, and many are being called upon to assist all other healthcare providers with medication therapy management of chronic disease states. There is virtually no aspect of healthcare that will not involve advanced pharmacotherapeutic interventions. While the commonly recognized traditional roles of pharmacists will continue to be essential for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients, the pharmacists of the future will need to adapt to new methods of pharmaceutical care delivery that are not yet apparent, and participate as members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The creation of the University of South Florida College of Pharmacy at USF Health will seek to create new technologies and research innovations for the purpose of implementing new standards in the delivery of patient-centered pharmaceutical care throughout the healthcare system. The USF College of Pharmacy will create pharmacists to serve all of these needs.
