  • Dr. Mary Webb has been awarded an additional $450,838 from the State of Florida Department of Education for the continuation of her grant: Increasing Qualified Nursing Faculty through a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Collaborative – Continuation.
  • Dr. Sandra Cadena has been awarded from the State of Florida Department of Education $224,831 for her new grant: Accelerated Baccalaureate Programs: The Fast Track to Nursing
  • Dr. Janine Overcash was notified that the journal Critical Review in Oncology Hematology published two of her articles:
    • The abbreviated comprehensive geriatric assessment (aCGA) for use in the older cancer patient as a prescreen: Scoring and Interpretation and
    • The abbreviated comprehensive geriatric assessment (aCGA): a retrospective analysis.
  • Dr. Audrey Nelson has been advised that her grant application with the University of Pittsburg, entitled: University of Pittsburgh Model Center of Spinal Cord Injury was funded by the US Department of Education.
  • Dr. Cecile Lengacher was notified that her abstract: "Feasibility of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in Early Breast Cancer Recovery, a Pilot Study" was accepted for the 29th Annual International San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium December 14-17, 2006.
  • Dr. Elaine Slocumb has been appointed to the Work Force Advocacy Commission, a state level organization associated with the Florida Nurses Association. 
  • Dr. Sandra Cadena’s presentation at Psychiatric Nursing given in March 2006 on Women and Depression Across the Lifespan has been selected to be included in their CD-ROM Self Study Program which makes this valuable information available to health care professionals who were unable to attend the conference
  • Dr. Sharon Edwards was elected as the President of the Tampa Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
  • Barbara B. Little, RN, MPH, Denise Passmore, MA, and Shauna Schullo, PhD have been notified that their manuscript, Using Synchronous Software in Web-Based Nursing Courses has been accepted for publication in CIN: Computer, Informatics, Nursing.
  • Nursing student, Christie Crean, under the mentorship of Ms. Denise Passmore, has been informed that her Fall '05 Capstone paper "My patient is going to the electrophysiology lab. What is that?" has been accepted for publication in "Nursing 2006".
  • Nursing student, Erin Parkinson, has learned that her Spring 2006 Capstone manuscript "Hepatitis C: Options after Relapse" has been accepted for publication by the journal Advance for Nurse Practitioners
  • Doctoral student, Rasheeta Chandler, accepted a position as correspondent at the 16th Annual International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada.
  • In addition, Rasheeta Chandler was selected as ANAC's 2006 recipient of the ANAC Diversity Mentorship Scholarship, which includes conference registration, a monetary reward, travel, & lodging.  Most importantly, a mentor will be provided in the area of HIV/AIDS. An awards ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 26th.
  • Dr. Lois Gonzalez and co-author, Dr. Cecile Lengacher, were notified that their article was accepted for publication in Issues in Mental Health Nursing in a special issue on Women's Mental Health.

  • Christine Bouchard, MS, MPH, ARNP, was notified that her manuscript entitled “Literacy and Hazard Communication,” has been accepted for publication in theAmerican Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) Journal.
  • Dr. Jason Beckstead and coauthors, Dr. Cecile Lengacher and Chiu-Yueh Yang (Grace), were notified that their article: Assessing Cross-cultural Validity of Scales: A Methodological Review and Illustrative Example International Journal of Nursing Studies, was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Nursing Studies.

  • USF Nursing hosted a Distinguished Lecturer presentation, Measurement of Self-Management of Diabetes in Teens (MOST) by Lynn Schilling, PhD, RN, on Monday, September 11th. Attendees from the USF College of Nursing, Department of Psychology,  the USF Diabetes Center, the USF Shimberg Library and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center applauded the lecture.
  • Dr. Mary Evans presented Grand Rounds at the University of MA Medical Center on September 14. The topic was Evaluation of Systems of Care for Children in the Post-Bickman Era
  • Dr. Cecile Lengacher and Dr. Jason Beckstead, coauthors with Chiu-Yueh Yang (Grace), were notified that their article: The Women’s Role Strain Inventory: A Chinese Translation and Psychometric Analyses for Taiwanese Women, was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Nursing Studies.
  • Dr. Janine Overcash was notified that her article, “Commentary by Overcash,” will be published in the Western Journal of Nursing Research Volume 29 Number 1 February 2007.
  • Dr. Janine Overcash was also selected to receive Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Program financial support to attend the 2006 American Academy of Nursing's Annual Meeting.  She was awarded $1,100.00 to defray the cost for this meeting. 
  • Dr. Cecilia Jevitt was notified that the chapter she wrote was published in the only American professional issues text available to midwifery educational programs:

  • Doctoral student, Christine Olney, was notified that the article,  “Enhancing Patient Safety Through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Documentation of Vital Signs “ by Pauline Gearing, RN, BSN, CCRC; Christine M. Olney MS, RN; Kim Davis, RN, MSN, ARNP; Diego Lozano, MD; Laura B. Smith, RN, MSN, CCRN; and Bruce D. Friedman, D.Eng. will be published in the Fall 2006 issue of the Journal of Healthcare Information Management.
  • Doctoral student, Don Kurtyka, was notified that his article was accepted for publincation:
