- Associate Professor, Dr. Jason Beckstead presented a lecture On Measurement Variance in Cross-Cultural Research at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital on Thursday, April 13th, 2006.
- Associate Professor, Dr. Theresa Beckie was notified that she was selected to present at the Governor's Conference on Women's Health on Thursday, May 18, 2006 in the Women's Health Problems Across the Life Span session.
- Assistant Professor, Dr. Cecilia Jevitt was also notified that she was selected to give a presentation on Perinatal Obesity Prevention at the Governor's Conference on Women's Health.
- Instructor, Lilyan Kay, MSN, MPH, CNM, FNP, was also notified that she was selected to give a presentation on Adolescent Reproductive Health at the Governor’s Conference on Women’s Health.
- Doctoral student, Jessica Brumley, was notified that she was awarded a renewal of the USF Latino Graduate Fellowship Award.
- Dr. Mary Evans accepted an invitation from the NIH National Institute of Mental Health to review advanced and developing services research centers. She participated in the review session on March 28, 2006.
- Dr. Mary Evans and Dr. Jason Beckstead were notified that the following article was accepted for publication: Evans, M. E., Armstrong, M. I., Beckstead, J. W., Lee, J. Examining the Impact of Policy on Collaboration in Systems of Care for Children with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. Journal of Child and Family Studies.
- Dr. Maureen Groer was notified that her manuscript, “The psychoneuroimmunology of rape," was presented last week at the Society of Behavioral Medicine and received a citation as an outstanding paper. The Elsevier scientific press was there and will be reviewing the work in one of their psychiatry journals.
- Nursing student, Susan Gaida, with the mentorship of Dr. Elaine Slocumb, has learned that her Fall 2005 Capstone manuscript, “A Safe Place to Share the Secret” has been accepted for publication by the journal The Nurse Practitioner.
- ARNP graduate, Norman Streeter, with the mentorship of Dr. Elaine Slocumb, was notified that his Fall 2004 Capstone manuscript, "Considerations in Prevention of Surgical Site Infections Following Cardiac Surgery: When your Patient is Diabetic," will be published in the next issue of the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing (vol 21, issue 3).
- Nursing Instructor, Lily Kay, MSN, MPH, CNM, FNP encouraged and mentored her students to submit their research to the USF Undergraduate Research Symposium. Nursing abstracts accepted for poster presentations are:
- Shannon Wheatley and Lina Vega’s research project, “An Intervention to Promote Body Art Safety among High School Students”
- Kara Leuz and Jessica Eden’s research project, “An Intervention with Caretakers of Malnourished Children at Children’s Medical Services Growth Clinic”
- Amber Rodriguez and Courtney Hancock’s research project, “An Intervention for Anxiety in High School Students”
