Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Curriculum Overview

The curriculum includes courses and clinical practicum in which you will learn:
  1. To provide for ethnically diverse and underserved populations
  2. Biopsychosocial assessment and differential diagnosis
  3. Treatment modalities designed to facilitate behavioral change and symptom management such as individual, group and family therapy, psychoeducation, and psychopharmacology
  4. Health promotion and disease prevention
  5. Competence in collaborative relationships with other health care providers to manage complex disorders in which there are both physical and psychiatric components
  6. Evidence-based client and program outcome management

Clinical practicum sites include primary care and specialty settings, medical-psychiatric settings, community clinics serving specific age groups and ethnic populations, correctional facilities, private psychiatric clinics, community mental health centers, and Veterans Administration agencies. An effort is made to make clinical practicum placements in sites near students’ homes for their convenience.
