Master's Degree
The University of South Florida College of Nursing offers a master's program leading to a Master of Science (MS) with a major in Nursing. The master's program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Admission Requirements:
College of Nursing Master of Science in Nursing Application Deadlines:  Spring – October 1; Summer –March 1 ; Fall – June 1 (exception: CRNA only accepts students once a year – deadline is March 1 for Fall admission)
Admission to the Master's program is competitive and is based on a review of materials submitted and on the availability of adequate classroom, clinical facilities, and faculty. The applicant is responsible for compiling and submitting the complete set of materials. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Admission Criteria:
  • Earned Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited program (alternative admission options are available for the nurse with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree and for the ASN/MS fast track option).
  • Earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale in all work attempted while registered as an upper division applicant working on a baccalaureate degree
  • Current license as a registered nurse
  • Three letters of recommendation, indicating potential for graduate study, from persons who can attest to the applicant's academic ability, clinical competence, and commitment (optimally, these letters will be from nursing professors, or clinical supervisors)
  • Current resume or curriculum vita
  • A written statement of professional goals.
  • Applicants who do not meet these requirements may petition the Student Affairs Committee for consideration for admission.


Note: The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is only required for the Masters of Science in Nurse Anesthesia. All other master's applicants may waive the GRE.
