Admission Criteria

The Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science program prepares scientists to advance nursing practice and education through research, scholarly activity, and teaching. Rigorous research training is offered for persons contemplating careers in academia or in health agencies, especially individuals anticipating careers in design, planning and research implementation.
Admission Requirements:
The College is committed to recruiting a diverse pool of applicants who are highly motivated to achieve the doctoral program objectives. Admission to the program is based on a number of factors that take into account the fact that a student's potential for academic success at the doctoral level may be measured in a number of ways.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelors of Nursing from a regionally accredited program
  • Three references attesting to applicant’s academic ability and potential (from clinical supervisor or nursing professor preferred)
  • Personal goal statement
  • Competitive score on the GRE (verbal, quantitative, and essay/analytical)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 at bachelors level
  • Personal interview with Director of BS to PhD Program or designee
