Non-Degree Seeking Students
The University of South Florida offers students the opportunity to apply as non-degree seeking in order to take courses without declaring a major. The College of Nursing makes limited courses available to students in limited populations. In order to qualify to take a nursing course as a non-degree seeking student, you must be a registered nurse who falls into one of four categories:
  • A transient student with approval from your home institution
  • An applicant who already has a masters degree and needs a few additional courses to be eligible for the certification exam
  • A graduate certificate applicant needing pre-requisite courses to be eligible to apply
  • A PhD/DNP applicant who needs to take a course before admission
A student who is not a nurse and/or does not fall into one of the categories above is not permitted to take undergraduate or graduate nursing courses as a non-degree seeking student. He or she must be admitted to the university as a degree-seeking student and complete the application process for the desired program.

Students who are taking their pre-requisite courses at USF before applying to the bachelors program are strongly encouraged to apply as a degree-seeking pre-nursing student in order to have priority registration times and access to a College of Nursing advisor. However, non-degree students may attempt to register for available pre-requisites if there is still space available on their registration date (typically the week before classes start).
