USF Ataxia Research Center - Welcome MessageWe are committed to providing specialized medical care for those people afflicted with cerebellar ataxia while performing basic science and clinical research in ataxia. Our team of medical experts provides specialized patient evaluations and treatment for this uncommon disorder.

Founded with a multidisciplinary approach which includes adult and pediatric clinical services, basic medical research and physical therapeutic interventions we are committed to discover new and effective approaches to better understand and treat cerebellar ataxia, while also searching for a cure.

Mission Statement

The goal of the USF – ARC is to provide clinical care for patients suffering from ataxia, while performing clinical and basic science research for the treatment of ataxia.

About Us

The USF-ARC is directed by Theresa Zesiewicz, MD FAAN from the Department of Neurology at USF, with assistant direction by Kelly L. Sullivan, MSPH. We collaborate with several clinical and basic science departments at USF and in other universities around the country to conduct a translational neuroscience ataxia and balance center. We also conduct multi-site clinical research. Our focus is on

  • pharmacologic therapies
  • physical therapy
  • basic pharmacologic research
  • stem cell research
  • neuroepidemiology
  • neurogenesis.
We closely partner with the West Central Florida Ataxia Support Group, directed by Crystal Frohna.
