Meet Our Physicians:
H. James Brownlee, Jr., M.D.
Medical Director of Monsour Executive Wellness
H. James Brownlee, Jr., MD, is a Professor and the Medical Director of the Monsour Executive Wellness Center. He was previously Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine for nearly 20 years.in Tampa, Florida, from 1992-2011.
Dr. Brownlee earned medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, he then went on to complete his residency training through the Williamsport Hospital Family Practice Residency Program in Pennsylvania. He completed his teaching fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Miami in Florida, followed by a geriatric fellowship at the Geriatric Education Center of the University of North Carolina. Dr. Brownlee is board certified in Family Medicine.
He is a member and fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Brownlee's accomplishments are:
- Awarded the Educator of the Year, 2009 by the Florida Academy of Family Medicine Physicians.
- Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors, Inc. since 2000
- Osler Award for Best Faculty Role Model, presented by the 1996 graduating class at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine
Eric Coris, M.D.
Executive Wellness Team Physician
Dr. Coris is professor of Family Medicine, board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. He is director of the Sports Medicine Institute and head medical team physician for the Department of Athletics at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Coris received his MD degree from the USF Morsani College of Medicine in 1996. While completing the St. Vincent's Family Medicine Residency Program in Jacksonville, he began to pursue an avid interest in Sports Medicine by providing medical care for the Jacksonville Lizard Kings East Coast Hockey League franchise, and the Terry Parker High School Braves football team.
Dr. Coris completed one of the top Sports Medicine fellowship programs in the country at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He continued to care for athletes as an assistant clinical professor at Ohio State's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, Division of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Coris joined the USF Morsani College of Medicine in 2001. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Sports Medicine, American Society for Sports Medicine's Education Committee and the USA Football Age and Weight Task Force. He is included in the Best Doctors in America list.
Janelle Pegg, M.D.
Executive Wellness Team Physician
Dr. Pegg is an associate professor of Family Medicine. Dr. Pegg received her MD degree from the USF Morsani College of Medicine 2006. Dr. Pegg had been in private practice on the East Coast of Florida and has since returned to the Tampa Bay area. She prides herself on her expertise in Family Medicine with an emphasis on preventative health.
Michele Pescasio, M.D.
Executive Wellness Team Physician
Michele Pescasio, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Sports Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, at USF Health. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine and is board-certified in the subspecialty of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Pescasio received her MD degree at Ross University School of Medicine in New York, and completed residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and a primary care Sports Medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham. She received fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at UAB. Dr. Pescasio also holds a BS degree in exercise science from the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles. She is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Kira Zwygart, MD, FAAFP
Executive Wellness Team Physician
Dr. Zwygart is an associate professor and the interim chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree at the University of South Florida, and then completed her Family Medicine residency at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida. She subsequently completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She has been caring for patients as a part of the Family Medicine team at USF since 2001.
