1.      COM Student Council - Projects, Collaboration, & Activities

·    COM Collaboration - It is with great pride that we have now officially incorporated the MD, DPT, and medical science graduate degree students under one COM Student Council. It's been fantastic working together and representing ourselves as one college.

·    Student Council Constitution - The SC Constitution has been completely revised and updated with all changes approved for adoption by the council. In addition to incorporating the MD, DPT, and med science grad students, we have made updates to class officer positions and reconciled procedural matters.

·    Association of Physical Therapy Students (APTS) - To allow the DPT students to represent matters specific to their program, we have established the APTS. The APTS will continue to be an organization of the COM Student Council.

·    Student Council Website - The SC Website has been updated and our Constitution and all minutes have been posted online.

·    Student Information Cards - COM students can now have USF Health business cards printed, so you can professionally represent yourself in the community.

·    USF Health Social Committee - The committee was established this year by the USF Health SC Presidents to improve interaction among students and faculty. We successfully held 6 events including USF Health Tailgate and the Taste of the World Carnivale.

·    Eball - Once again, we had a fantastic night at Eball and well done PWH auction.

2.      Education

·    LCME Accreditation Site Visit - We had an extremely successful LCME Site Visit in February with input from many students, both during the visit and during the last 1.5 years of preparation. Our LCME Student Evaluation was very well received and the Curriculum Committee and administration spent a lot of time resolving all of concerns.

·    3/3 Model for Primary Care & Med/Peds Clerkships - After much work with the Curriculum Committee, our student proposal to change the 4/2 model of Primary Care and Med/Peds clerkships to a 3 month/3 month model was approved. This change will be an improved experience for students and will start this year.

·    KAPLAN QBank Subsidies - Through the generosity of the OEA, KAPLAN QBank will continue to be subsidized for both Step 1 and Step 2.

·    Externship Malpractice Coverage - To allow students to have the best options for externships, our externship malpractice coverage was increased to $1 million.

·    Student Information Forum on Blackboard - To allow students to share information such as residency experiences and study guides, a forum on Blackboard has been instituted under the organizations tab. Thanks to Dom Mastroianni for all his hard work.

·    Medical Student Graduation - This event will continue to be the traditional ceremony that it always has been. Dr. Klasko, after discussion with SC, has also been generous enough to pay for Commencement Dinner for students and 3 guests and host a reception after graduation.

3.      Student Facilities

·    After some initial break in communication with students, the administration has worked hard to take student input into consideration with the following construction projects:

·    Nickels IT Lounge - Open and completed with top of the line technology and concierge services.

·    Student Lounge - Entirely with student input, all furniture and decorations have been purchased for the student lounge. The lounge will include a flat screen TV.

·    Gym - Is expected to open in the next 2 months.

·    Reading Room - Is officially open. Administration will continue to assess whether students will be able to have 24/7 access to this space.

·    Kitchen - Is complete, will remain as it is, and has a separate space for dining.

·    Conference Spaces - There are now over 25 spaces for student use all with LCD projector capability

·    Parking - Students on rotations at TGH are now able to park in the new parking garage. Parking on campus will continue to be assessed and a new garage is in the works.

4.      Alumni Advisory Board

·    The Alumni Development Office along with the Dean and students are working to improve alumni relations and learn from alumni how the USF COM can continue to work with them. We expect a great deal of progress in the coming year.

5.      Student Government - Student Health Services and A & S Funding

·    Student Health Services (SHS) - We have met with the new Student Government President and discussed options for improving the SHS on the undergraduate campus. This discussion is ongoing and will be addressed more in the next year.

·    Activities & Services Funding - We have discussed A & S Funding for our COM student organizations with Student Government. Student Government will consider developing a USF Health Student Organization Council run by us to allow better assignment of funds. This move will give us more independence and help us to better support our organizations.
