Dear Class of 2014,
Thank you so much for attending our AMA social at Mangroves last Thursday night! It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with so many of you, and I hope we were able to help you learn more about the AMA and the many benefits of being a member.
Becoming a student member of the AMA provides you with the opportunity to make a difference on a national level. The AMA is the only organization that represents all physicians and medical students on issues affecting medicine at every stage in your career. Medical student debt, public health, access to care; your membership helps to ensure that students have a voice in Washington D.C. on these and other important issues.
As a member of our chapter you will also have the opportunity to become a part of the Florida Medical Association, as well as the Hillsborough County Medical Association. Through these organizations, you will have the ability to become involved and informed on a more local level as well.
We will be hosting a number of events—some educational, some just for fun—throughout this upcoming year. Through our chapter you will be provided with opportunities to serve other through community projects, to inform yourself at speaker luncheons, and to develop as a leader by participating in local, regional, and national leadership conferences and events.
A lot of you asked me last night what the time commitment is to be a member of the AMA. The great part about becoming a member of this organization is that there is no specific time commitment requirement. Participate in as many events as you feel comfortable or that interest you; your level of involvement is up to you. We know how busy you will be this year and we want to encourage you to become active in many other organizations that may also interest you without feeling overwhelmed.
Feel free to e-mail me at jgoldono@health.usf.edu with any questions, or if you would just like to learn a little more about our chapter. Stop on by our booth at the Student Organization Fair next Monday, August 16th, and if you are interested in joining, please plan on coming to our AMA luncheon on Thursday, August 26th in classroom 1096 at noon. We would love for you to join our AMA family!
Sincerely,
Jessica Goldonowicz

Hey class of 2014 (and returning members!),
I welcome you (back) to USF COM and I hope your time here is a blast. This year, I am very thrilled to introduce to you the new USF AMA website. I know I can speak for the rest of the board when I say we have a ton of cool and interesting events planned for you guys this year. We'll be sending notices for events through the USF Health email system so keep an eye out for those (like this Thursday August 5th for the Lil/Big Sib Social at Mangroves!) . However, just like any other organization, notices can easily get lost in the barrage of health emails, so come to this site if you want to know what AMA is up to and what events are being planned. The site will also include updates about healthcare policy and changes that are being made at the national and local levels. So please do visit. Till then, have a great first week of school :)

Hey everyone, Chicago is almost here! We will be having a meeting June 8 at 6:00pm in MDA1096. We will go over the logistics of our trip to Chicago and we will have PLENTY of food. If you would like, you can look at the powerpoint that Steve made for us. These are the resolutions we will go over on the June 8 meeting and in Chicago.
Just a few quick things for the trip.
1. This is very important!!! Keep all receipts from the trip! This means boarding passes, taxicab fares, meals, hotel receipts, anything that you can possibly get reimbursed for (besides booze). 2. We will be staying at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Chicago along with the other Florida schools. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chiwb-courtyard-chicago-downtown-river-north/
3. Our first meeting is Thursday June 10 at 7pm in the Florida suite and then we will all head together to the Region IV meeting around 8pm.
That's the quick and dirty. If you guys have any other questions let me know. See you at the meeting!
~Davis
