Sleep Medicine Fellowship at USF

The one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine, Sleep Disorders Center emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to patients with sleep disorders.

The program focuses on clinical sleep medicine, but research activity is encouraged. Fellows participate in outpatient evaluations, inpatient consultations and polysomnographic assessment of a broad array of sleep disorders.

The full-time faculty sleep specialists, based in the USF Sleep Disorders Center, Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Administration and All Children's Hospital. We adhere to a multidisciplinary approach to Sleep Medicine with rotations in pulmonary medicine, ENT surgery, pediatrics, neurology and long-term seizure monitoring, radiology, and dentistry. Additional faculty consultants include otolaryngologists and behavioral medicine specialists. Fellows work with these specialists in the course of the program.

In combination with clinical training, fellows receive regular didactic instruction in normal sleep, sleep pathologies, and treatment issues from Sleep Medicine faculty and others. Fellows also have opportunities to participate in the educational mission of the center through the instruction of medical students, residents, and community groups, among others. A clinical research project is strongly encouraged, with the goal of publication after completion of the fellowship.

This program is designed to prepare interested physicians to successfully complete the examination for board certification/added qualification in Sleep Medicine, which is granted by the candidate's primary ABMS board (ABIM/ABPN/ABP/ABO/ABFP). The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
