UR USF - The Office of Undergraduate Research at the University of South Florida
REU READY
The Office of Undergraduate Research, housed in USF's Honors College, was established by the provost to foster research opportunities for all of USF's undergraduates and to encourage and support faculty mentorship of students. Our goals are:
- To engage students in substantive research experiences with faculty mentors
- To provide training and support for students who wish to engage in research, through workshops, Research Experiences for Undergraduates ("REU" programs) and grants
- To support faculty by ensuring that the students who work with them have appropriate research skills and understand their mentors' expectations
- To help departments and programs in designing sustainable and substantive research experiences for students at a variety of levels
- To facilitate the dissemination of results through our annual Undergraduate Research Symposium (scheduled for March 30, 2007) and departmental symposia, Conjure, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at NCUR and professional conferences
- To obtain national recognition of USF's undergraduate research programs through the above-mentioned dissemination of results and by presentations and publications regarding undergraduate research by USF faculty, including the director of the Office of Undergraduate Research.
In addition to working with faculty and departments to develop formal undergraduate research programs, our office is happy to help match potential mentors with interested and motivated students.
Faculty interested in identifying potential undergraduates should email the Director of Undergraduate Research, Dr. Naomi Yavneh (
yavneh@honors.usf.edu), with a brief description of the project, including duties, time commitments, and qualifications of potential undergraduate participants.
Students seeking opportunities should email the Undergraduate Research Coordinator, Penny Carlton (
carlton@honors.usf.edu) and request the research information form. In addition, all faculty mentors and undergraduate researchers - whether matched by the Office of Undergraduate Research or not - are requested to contact Ms. Carlton and to complete the "research update form" in order to receive information about UR USF workshops, grants and other funding opportunities.
