Salary and Benefits

Effective July 1, 2012, annual resident salaries are as follows:

PGY-1   $46,941
PGY-2   $48,700
PGY-3   $50,473
PGY-4   $52,048
PGY-5   $53,558
PGY-6   $55,508

In addition, Florida has a relatively low cost of living and there is no state income tax. Benefits include health and life insurance (optional family coverage), disability, and malpractice coverage.

Additional funds provided by the department include:

  • Florida Licensure and USMLE Part III (and bi-annual license renewal)
  • Review course expenses ( for two courses, usually Huda for physics and Duke University for general diagnostic radiology)
  • AFIP registration fee of $1,500 as well as a housing stipend of $2,000
  • $1000 per year for books
  • The department will also pay the expenses for residents who present research at national meetings

Each year, PGY-1 residents receive two weeks of vacation and one week of sick leave, PGY-2 through PGY-5 receive three weeks of vacation time and one week of sick leave. The department also provides PGY-2 and PGY-5 residents with one educational week.
