We Invite Referrals to the NeuroStar® TMS Treatment
Date: November 12, 2009
The USF Health Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences now offers NeuroStar TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Therapy® treatment for patients suffering from depression. While nearly two-thirds of depressed patients respond to an initial course of antidepressants, non-responders struggle daily to live – even to survive. Alternatives for non-responders include switching to a different antidepressant, adding other medications and/or psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), or vagal nerve stimulation (VNS). TMS is the only available non-systemic, non-invasive treatment for non-responders. The typical TMS course of treatment consists of 5-40 minute sessions per week over a 4-6 week period for 20-30 treatments. To schedule a patient for a consultation please contact our Neurotherapies Program Director, Ruta Dimaite, at 813-259-0920 or e-mail us at neurotx@health.usf.edu.
