Message from the Chairman

The University Of South Florida’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences is dedicated to providing the best care for persons with mental disorders and the best education for its trainees. The Department is growing and continues to grow and expand our clinical and training programs and research initiatives every year.

Utilizing a thriving, modern, health sciences center as its base of operations, the University of South Florida’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences has developed a nucleus of psychiatric facilities as its clinical core for educational, research, and service activities. I invite you to visit them through the links provided on this web site and learn about each and the valuable role they play in supporting our initiatives.

The overall mission of our clinical programs is to provide a graduate program of academic excellence for physicians and other trainees who are strongly motivated toward an education that emphasizes both the clinical and scientific aspects of psychiatry and the neurosciences as the core for building diverse careers in the rapidly evolving healthcare arena. The Department, therefore, keeps an eye to the future, sees the future of psychiatry as a positive challenge, and we accept our role in meeting that future.

The Department is poised to move forward and continue to be a leader in Psychiatry both in the metropolitan Tampa area and nationally. It is through the efforts of our clinical and research faculty that we are able to continue to grow and flourish despite the difficult environment in which the practice of academic medicine exists.

The goals and vision of the Department are:

  1. To be leaders in providing state of the art psychiatric treatments
  2. To offer a premiere psychiatric training program
  3. To advance the art and science of psychiatry
  4. To provide clinical, teaching, and research leadership to the College of Medicine and healthcare affiliates of the University of South Florida.
To these ends, the faculty, staff and I remain committed to each other, the University, and to our patients. It is with pleasure that I welcome you to our Department on this site.
