The salary for a PL-1 residents for 2013-2014 is $47,410 annually and increases with each year of training. Checks are directly deposited into your bank.
Health Insurance is provided through United HealthCare. The plan provides coverage for the house officer, the spouse and unmarried children.
Life Insurance is provided through a basic term life insurance plan and provides the option to purchase additional insurance.
Disability Insurance is provided to residents covering long term disability after a 90 day waiting period. Residents may utilize the sick leave pool during that 90 days.
Three weeks of vacation are provided to each intern and resident with some additional days during the winter holiday. Nine sick days are awarded each year.
Each member of the housestaff is given a meal allowance based on the hospital and number of shifts they work for the month. Funds are placed on a meal card.
3 pairs of scrubs are provided. Additionally, two physician white coats are provided annually and embroidered with the physician's name, at the beginning of the year. Housestaff also receive alphanumeric pagers at no expense.
Many residents have the opportunity to present research projects at national meetings or attend a board review course during their senior year.
Parental Leave / Adoption
Parental leave is available to eligible residents for the birth or adoption of a child. Residents can use accrued sick and vacation time for parental leave plus two additional weeks and may be eligible for an independent study elective subsequently. After paid sick, vacation time and parental leave is used, residents are eligible for unpaid leave utilizing FMLA.
