Jeremiah Nelson, MD
Dr. Nelson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus at age 11 years and began medical school at 18 as part of an accelerated combined undergraduate and medical school program in Kansas City. After medical school, Dr. Nelson specialized in Pediatrics for three years in Orlando. He then sub-specialized in Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology for an additional three years at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Nelson has founded a Pediatric Diabetes Center in South Florida and his practice has included patients throughout Florida as well as from other states and countries. Dr. Nelson joined the USF faculty in 2007 as an Assistant Professor. His Tampa Bay-based Pediatric Diabetes mission has continued to expand, and currently includes offices in St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Ft. Myers. Dr. Nelson’s interests include the study of current concepts and science related to both the eventual prevention and cure of various forms of autoimmunity including type 1diabetes, and improving the lives of patients afflicted with all forms of diabetes mellitus.

Scholarly Interests
Dr. Nelson’s scholarly interests include the study of autoimmunity including type 1 diabetes mellitus as well as brain glucose utilization. Dr. Nelson enjoys problem solving while looking at how the details fit into the entire picture for each patient. Dr. Nelson supports regional, national and international efforts toward increasing diabetes education, control and advances necessary for both cure and prevention. Dr. Nelson has dedicated the majority of his career to helping his patients and families.
