Robert M. Nelson Jr., M.D., M.S.

Dr. Nelson served on the faculty at the University of Florida after completing his training in pediatrics and neonatology. In 1980 he joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska as Neonatology Division Chief. While in Omaha, Dr. Nelson served as Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University School Medicine, Associate Chairman for Education and Vice Chairman of Pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Department of Pediatrics, and Director of Newborn Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 1992, Dr. Nelson re-located to Tampa where he was appointed Division Chief of USF Neonatology. Since joining USF, Dr. Nelson has served in many roles including Associate Dean for Medical Education, Chief of Pediatrics at Tampa General Hospital, and Vice Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. In 2005 he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, and since 2002 has been the South Campus Medical Director. Dr. Nelson has a keen interest in administrative medicine, earning a M.S. degree in the field in 1993. His primary scholarly interests relate to medical education, particularly the use of technology in medicine.

Dr. Nelson is an author of over 80 scientific publications and book chapters. He has been the recipient of numerous grants, particularly those related to the use of technology in medicine.
