Jorge Lujan-Zilbermann, M.D., FAAP

Dr. Lujan is a native of Guatemala, where he completed his medical degree at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín.   He completed his pediatric residency at the Schneider Children’s Hospital of the Long Island Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine – where he also served as chief resident.  Dr. Lujan completed a postdoctoral fellowship in infectious diseases and virology-molecular biology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, TN.  During his fellowship he also earned an MS in Epidemiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  Currently, he is an associate professor in pediatric infectious diseases and a clinical consultant and faculty member of the Florida AIDS and Education Training Center (FAETC) at the USF College of Public Health.

Dr. Lujan is a frequently invited speaker on pediatric viral infections including HIV, respiratory infections and cytomegalovirus.  He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and is an author of numerous publications related to the diagnosis, management and treatment of pediatric viral infections, and has written several book chapters related to infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Scholarly Interests

Dr. Lujan’s primary interest is pediatric viral infections. He has been the co-principal investigator of several NIH funded clinical trials related to maternal and pediatric HIV, and the principal investigator for numerous trials past and on-going studies of pharmacotherapies for HIV infected individuals.
