Raquel G. Hernandez, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Hernandez joins the faculty at the University of South Florida after completing her pediatric residency and fellowship in general academic pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2009, Dr. Hernandez re-located to Tampa where she was appointed assistant professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Adolescent Medicine. As a general pediatrician and clinician investigator, she strives to improve pediatric care at the patient as well as the population level. Her primary scholarly interests relate to child health disparities, evaluating quality of care in patients with limited English proficiency, and management of early childhood obesity. She completed her Master’s in Public Health with a focus on public health nutrition while at Johns Hopkins. As part of her research and patient care goals, Dr. Hernandez will join the staff at the Healthy Weight Clinic and the General Pediatrics South Tampa Center clinic. Dr. Hernandez is currently a member of the USF K30 Clinical Scholars Program in Patient-Oriented Research.

Scholarly Activity and Interests
Dr. Hernandez’s research has focused on identifying determinants of early childhood obesity including understanding the role of child care and parental perceptions in child growth risk. She has completed various quantitative and qualitative projects in this field of study. Additional interests include evaluating quality of care and resident perspectives when caring for patients with limited English proficiency.
