Rani S. Gereige, MD, MPH, FAAP

Dr. Gereige served for three years as the Associate Pediatric Clerkship Director for USF Medical Students at All Children’s Hospital, and for 6 years was the Associate Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at USF. Currently he is the Program Director of the USF General Academic Pediatric Fellowship and the Course Director for the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Course at the USF College of Medicine for the second year medical students, and was recently appointed Interim Co-Chief for the Division of General Pediatrics.  Dr. Gergeige is the recipient of several teaching awards from residents and medical students including the 2003 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award.

Dr. Gereige is the director of the School Health and Sports Medicine resident and medical student rotations. He is also a member of the USF SMART (Sports Medicine Athletic Related Trauma) institute. He designed the curriculum for training residents in school health including an Adopt-A-School program, and is the director of the evidence-based medicine residents’ curriculum. At the local level, he participates on the local School Health Advisory Councils in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties and works closely with the Tampa Bay school districts.

At the State level, Dr. Gereige is the current chairman of the Committee on School Health and Sports Medicine in the Florida Pediatric Society/Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He serves on the executive board of the AAP Florida Chapter as the Region V representative and the State champion for the Oral Health initiative. Dr. Gereige is a member of the State Child Health Advisory Council, the Florida School Health Education Consortium, and he serves as the Assistant Medical Director for the Children’s Medical Services in the State of Florida.

At the national level, Dr. Gereige is a member of the national AAP executive committee of the Council on School Health where he serves as the newsletter and website co-editor. In addition to being a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he is a member of the Academic Pediatric Association, the American Public Health Association, the Council on Medical Students Education in Pediatrics, and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. Dr. Gereige was recently appointed to serve on the NBME USMLE Step 2 test writing committee for the pediatric test questions and as a faculty advisor for the Academic Pediatric Society Faculty Scholars Program.

Dr. Gereige’s interests include school health, primary care sports medicine, public health, evidence-based medicine, oral health, children with special health care needs, sports medicine and medical education.

Scholarly Activity

Dr. Gereige is the author of several peer-reviewed manuscripts, published abstracts, and electronic publications. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for several journals and is an AAP book technical reviewer. He presents workshops, platforms sessions, and posters nationally and internationally. Dr. Gereige is the recipient of several medical/resident education and community-based pediatric grants.
