Terri L. Ashmeade, M.D.
Dr. Ashmeade joined the USF faculty after completing her fellowship in neonatology in 2000. From 2003 to 2008 she served as Division Chief of Neonatology, and has been Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship program since 2006. Dr. Ashmeade was appointed Medical Director of the Tampa General Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 2003 – a position she currently holds. She serves on numerous university and hospital committees, and is active in community service. Dr. Ashmeade serves on the Board of Directors of Hillsborough County’s Healthy Start program, and has a keen interest in perinatal health disparities. In 2006, Dr. Ashmeade was selected to be a USF Scholar in Patient-Oriented Research, a program which is funded by a NIH K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award. This prestigious program supports the development of careers in clinical and translational research for patient-oriented researchers. Dr. Ashmeade was recently appointed Chief of the Division of Pediatric Quality, Safety and Access.

Scholarly Activity
Dr. Ashmeade has been the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials. She is interested in bone development, infant nutrition and characterization of immune factors in human milk. Current clinical research projects include:
- Preterm infant nutrition and bone development
- Improvements in formulas for term and preterm infants
- Characterization of immune factors in human milk
