Introduction:

The Master's degree in Medical Sciences with an emphasis in Anatomy is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for careers in Biotechnology, Teaching or for entry into a Ph.D. program. Students may opt to pursue this program on a full-time or part-time basis. The program will provide students with a solid educational background in advanced concepts and experimental techniques used in the field. Students may individualize their training through elective courses and laboratory research training. This program addresses the educational needs of students who wish to acquire a graduate degree without full committment to a Ph.D. program. Master's Degree students are not eligible for Morsani College of Medicine tuition waivers or stipends.

Admission Requirements:

1. A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, Biology or any related field.
2. An undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and a combined score of 1100 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE or a score of 25 on the MCAT are preferred.
3. A one to two page statement of purpose describing the student's interest in pursuing a Master's degree in Anatomy.
4. Three letters of recommendation from instructors familiar with the student's academic abilities.
5. Official transcripts of all undergraduate coursework.
6. International students must score at least 600 on the TOEFL.
7. Applications for the fall semester must be received by June 1st.

Course Requirements:

All students are required to complete a minimum of 32 credit hours of course work. This includes 22 hours of required courses, 8 credit hours of elective courses.

Optional Research Pathway:

Students who elect to pursue the research pathway are required to submit a completed manuscript of original research that has been or will shortly be submitted to a scientific journal for publication. Students should have significant and substantial contribution to the research work as an author on the manuscript. The manuscript of the student's thesis should consist of a scholarly introduction, materials and methods, results if applicable and discussion of relevant scientific citations.

In order to complete the requirements for the Master's Degree, students' presentation of their thesis must conform to the PowerPoint format of a seminar and must be defended publicly. The Graduate Advisory Committee will determine whether the student has successfully defended their Thesis.

All requirements of this program must be satisfied in order to receive the Master's Degree.
