Athletic Training Residency

The University of South Florida Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is pleased to announce a 13-month Athletic Training Residency Program designed to devleop the athletic trainer's skills as an orthopaedic physician extender.  The selected candidate will gain experience alongside our highly respected orthopaedic surgeons in the care and treatment of patients with sports medicine, general orthopaedic, foot and ankle, and hand injuries and conditions. The chosen individual will also have the opportunity to learn and refine their skills in casting and bracing techniques and develop the experience necessary to assist in surgical procedures.

The goal of USF's Athletic Training Residency is to provide high quality experiences in orthopaedic care, education and research in an environment that promotes and facilitates clinical and ethical growth for the athletic training resident.

The residency will begin on July 1, 2009 and end on July 31, 2010
Annual Stipend $20,000

Candidate Qualifications

  • Current BOC Certification
  • Florida STate Licencse or eligible
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Orthopaedic Tech Certification, or in application process
    (requires 6 months of experience specific to orthopaedic technology under the direct supervision of an Orthopaedic Physician)

Review of applications begins March 4, 2009

The primary learning experience will take place in the Carol and Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Health Care, a state-of-the-art outpatient clinical and surgical center.  The Morsani Center is home to a complete line of diagnosit imagin; ambulatory surgery center; and outpatient facilities including 60 clinic examination rooms.
