The Fetal Therapy team strives to improve surgical techniques, instruments and approaches. As we develop new methods, we are able to improve the management of the conditions we currently treat and address other birth defects or high risk conditions. With more funding, we could conduct more research that focuses on the healthy delivery of babies.
The research takes place primarily at Tampa General Hospital but may also be multi-institutional. All research is conducted after approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the University of South Florida and other participating institutions. The patients are cared for at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa.
Currently, there is additional laboratory research conducted at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientificas (IVIC) in Caracas, Venezuela.
