Program Sites

Tampa General Hospital (TGH): The flagship hospital for the department of Neurological Surgery at USF this 800+ bed level I Trauma Center serves as one of the main tertiary care facilities for West Central Florida. Less than five minutes from downtown Tampa TGH receives neurosurgical patients from all parts of Florida and the greater south east region. Currently there are 24 dedicated neurological intensive care beds with a daily average of 3-4 operating rooms. Over 1500 cases a year are performed by the department covering all aspects of neurosurgery from complex spine, to cerebral vascular, oncology, functional neurosurgery and peripheral nerve. The hospital is currently undergoing significant expansion with the addition of a new operative vascular center with intraoperative MRI capability and additional emergency department and intensive care capacity.

 

 

H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute (Moffitt): This NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only in the state, provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for patients with primary and metastatic diseases of the CNS. With the recent addition of a Cybernife radiosurgery system over 800 procedures are performed annually at this facility including skull base and complex spinal reconstruction for primary and metastatic disease.

 

James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital (JAH): The anchor hospital of VISN-8, JAH is a regional referral center for the VA system. This 300+ bed hospital has national award winning spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation centers. One resident is stationed at the VA with an annual caseload of over 200 cases, mainly treatment for degenerative spine disease.

 

 

All Childrens' Hospital (ACH): This nationally recognized facility is the only free standing children's hospital in Central Florida. A rapidly expanding pediatric neurosurgery group provides care for much of the pediatric population in Central Florida and beyond. Over 500 cases annually are performed at this 200+ bed facility. Ground has recently been broken on a new state of the art hospital facility next door to the current building with opening planned for Spring 2009.
