Residency Program
As part of its threefold mission of patient care, education, and research the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of South Florida sponsors a fully ACGME accredited post graduate residency in neurological surgery.
The residency program is a comprehensive seven year program which includes the completion of an integrated internship jointly managed by the Department of Neurological Surgery and the Department of General Surgery. First started in 1987 under the auspices of the founding chairman Dr David Cahill this program selects two residents each year. Residents rotate through four different sites as part of their training: All Childrens’ Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute, and Tampa General Hospital
Over 2500 operative cases are performed yearly at the four institutions and residents at all levels are intimately involved in preoperative evaluation, surgery and postoperative care of these patients.
The residency program is in full compliance with all current ACGME work hour restrictions and other guidelines.
Thank you for expressing an interest in what we think is an excellent, rapidly growing program dedicated to the training and maturation of surgeons who are both a credit to our program as well as the profession at large.
