Residency Program

As part of its mission of patient care, education, and research the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair at the University of South Florida sponsors a fully accredited ACGME post graduate residency in neurological surgery.
The residency program is a comprehensive seven-year program that includes the completion of an integrated internship jointly managed by the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair and the Department of General Surgery. Started in 1987 under the auspices of the founding chairman Dr. David W. Cahill this program selects two residents each year. Residents rotate through four different sites as part of their training: All Children's Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Tampa General Hospital
Over 2,500 operative cases are performed annually at the four institutions, and residents at all levels are intimately involved in preoperative evaluation, surgery, and postoperative care of these patients.
The residency program is in full compliance with all current ACGME work hour requirements and other guidelines.
Thank you for expressing an interest in what we believe is an excellent, rapidly growing program dedicated to the training and maturation of surgeons who are both a credit to our program as well as the profession at large.
