Bio Sketch

Raul Olivera, M.D. is the newest faculty member of the USF Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair. He is a member of the Skull Base Cerebrovascular team with primary academic interests in skull base microsurgery, as well as tumors and vascular lesions of the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Olivera was born in Havana, Cuba where he began his medical training. After emigrating to the U.S. he held several different jobs within the medical field. During this time he completed his medical training in Costa Rica and then returned to Miami, FL where he completed a one year pre-residency training. He then completed his neurosurgery residency at St. Louis University. After graduating, he pursued further training in complex cranial surgery. He was selected for the 2010-2011 skull base cerebrovascular fellowship under the mentorship of Harry van Loveren, M.D., Chairman of the USF Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair. Upon completion of his fellowship in June 2011, Dr. Olivera accepted a faculty position as Assistant Professor in our Department. He is Board Eligible for the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
