The Stroke Center provides comprehensive care to patients with cerebrovascular diseases at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center and Florida State-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. Tampa General's Stroke program received the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award as recognition for excellent stroke patient care. Additionally, The University of South Florida's Stroke Center has been awarded Comprehensive Stroke Certification from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). Comprehensive Stroke Certification serves as a notice that The USF Stroke Center has the capacity to provide comprehensive care for complex stroke patients. Moreover, it has the required infrastructure, such as board certified neurologists, advanced neuro-imaging and complex neurosurgical interventions, and a dedicated neurointensive care unit with nurses specifically trained in stroke care.

The new state-of-the-art Bayshore Pavillion at TGH has a 10-bed Stroke Unit, 10 bed Trauma Resuscitation Unit and full capability CT and MRI scan in the Emergency Department (ED); 2 dedicated neuroangiography suites; and a 32-bed Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, which is one of the largest in the country. We also staff a 39-bed Neurology/Neurosurgery ward in the main hospital. The Stroke Team consists of an attending vascular neurologist, a vascular neurology fellow, senior and junior residents, medical students, nurse practioners and our stroke and research coordinators.

In addition to inpatient care, we also provide outpatient care at The USF Health South Tampa Center, conveniently located within walking distance of Tampa General Hospital. In our clinics, we follow patients after their hospitalization and see new patients in consultation.
