Research Interests

  • A current goal of our group is to identify interactions among chemoresponsive regions of the brainstem and motor pattern generating circuits for breathing. Our approach incorporates selective stimulation of peripheral and central chemoreceptors and perturbations of blood gases. We acquire parallel spike train recordings and use statistical methods to identify and represent functional connectivity and aspects of its dynamics. Computational models have iteratively motivated and guided our experiments.
