Welcome to the Department of Molecular Medicine at USF Health!

The Department of Molecular Medicine is a new department, established in April 2006 as part of the School of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. We share with our colleagues at USF Health the commitment to develop preeminent biomedical research and educational programs that serve the needs of society and advance knowledge to improve health.

The mission of the Department of Molecular Medicine is to further understanding of the molecular bases of health and disease. These are exciting times in the biomedical sciences. Major technological advances have made it possible for us to begin to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding old and new diseases at the molecular level and to translate this knowledge into improved therapies.

We are embarking on a major expansion, which will occur over the next several years, to meet the challenges of the future and to build on the success of our current faculty and students. We will continue to build on our strengths in the areas of structural biology, immunology, infectious diseases, cardiovascular research, neuroscience, cancer biology and gene therapy, but we will also be developing other emerging areas in molecular medicine.

One of the challenges for the future is the training of future leaders in molecular medicine. We are committed to meet this challenge and will continue to enhance and expand our graduate programs in molecular medicine, bioinformatics and biotechnology to meet the needs of current and future students in molecular medicine.

We invite potential faculty and students to explore the exciting opportunities available at USF Health and the Department of Molecular Medicine and to join us in our journey to excellence!
