Scholarly Concentrations


Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business in Medicine

This concentration explores principles of the business aspects of medicine. This knowledge will enable participation in medical and healthcare business enterprises and in development of innovative models for delivery of healthcare and medical therapeutics. This background may ultimately present opportunities for career options outside the clinical practice of medicine. The four themes are leadership and team-building, medico-legal issues, financial management, and entrepreneurship.

Curriculum

Year 1

  • Formal medical school course work (core curricula)
  • Business of Medicine Boot Camp (BOMB) – Summer between MS I and MS II
  • USF MCOM Business Concept Competition

Year 2

  • Formal medical school course work (core curricula)
  • Scholarly Project selection
  • USF MCOM Business Concept Competition

Year 3

  • Leadership opportunities within SC, and BOMB
  • Business of Healthcare Externship Program (elective rotation)
  • USF MCOM Business Concept Competition

Year 4

  • Elective time in 3rd / 4th year to conclude or expand the Scholarly Project
  • Business of Healthcare Externship Program (elective rotation)
  • USF MCOM Business Concept Competition
