Tips on Applying
Read the websites thoroughly: We make sure to keep our information about requirements, timelines, and other pertinent information about USF MCOM admissions current and available on the web. Bookmark and save these pages for your quick reference. If there is a question you have that is not listed on the website, please email us at md-admissions@health.usf.edu. Also review the AAMC, AMCAS, MSAR and other admissions related resources and websites.
Be aware of your application timeline: It is very important to know the dates and deadlines of the medical schools you are applying to for that specific application cycle. Changes can occur from year to year and it would be in your best interest to be prepared prior to sending your application through AMCAS.
Take the MCAT in the Spring: This allows you to have the largest window of "interviewability." The later you take the MCAT, the more it may impact the time you are included in the interview pool. The interview window for USF MCOM is from late September through March.
Research the Medical School Programs: Ensure that you meet or exceed the qualifications for the program. Are there minimum GPA/MCAT requirements? Is there state or US citizenship requirements? Does the program produce clinical, research, or both types of physicians? Does the program offer you the urban/rural and multi- cultural experiences in quality training facilities? What type of student support is available for you? You ultimately want to find the best “fit” for your medical school education and researching your program will accomplish this task.
Monitor application status with AMCAS: Applicants are responsible for regularly checking the status of their application from the time you submit your application to AMCAS. It is important to verify all application information with AMCAS and follow the traffic rules for applicants with the AAMC in regards to the application process.
Keep AMCAS Address Information Current: You cannot be invited for an interview or given "good" news if we cannot contact you.
Be Professional: Whether you are a prospective applicant communicating with our office via email or have applied multiple times, we ask that you remain professional. We appreciate your patience and understanding in every matter that is corresponded through this office and USF MCOM.
