In-Patient Facilities
Tampa General Hospital
Tampa General Hospital is 600-bed facility with a combination of county and private patients.
It is the major teaching hospital of the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
This facility provides patients for Rheumatology consultations from all services. Tampa
General Hospital has a comprehensive rehabilitation center incorporating both inpatient
and out-patient facility, including: physical, occupational, speech, and recreational
therapies.
James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital
James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital is a tertiary care facility. It contains 600 beds, which
provide Rheumatology consultations from all services. The hospital has an active rehabilitation
service including: physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapies. Due to the
predominantly male patient population it provides an alternative and complementary patient
population to the one seen at TGH.
H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute
The Moffitt Cancer Center is a 162-bed tertiary referral center for the treatment of cancer.
Those cancer patients with rheumatological complaints are seen in consultation by our service.
The Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center have inpatient facilities for acute and chronic care at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. These facilities are equipped with imaging centers that have the capability for Computerized Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In addition, each hospital has a fully equipped, twenty-four hour lab with a compensated polarized microscope for use by the residents.
Outpatient Facilities
The Health Park Clinic
The Health Park Clinic is a multi disciplinary clinic organized through Tampa General
Hospital and subsidized by Hillsborough county. Referrals to the rheumatology clinic
come from primary care facilities in the county as well as Other Health Park subspecialty
clinics including: Orthopedics, Dermatology,Ophthalmology, Nephrology, and Neurology.
Patients who are insured through Medicaid or the county, and are initially seen at TGH
receive follow up care at The Health Park clinic. There are six exam rooms, x-ray
services on site, full lab capabilities and full social services. Any other radiology
requests are handled through TGH.
James A. Haley Veterans Hospital- Outpatient Rheumatology Clinic
The outpatient rheumatology clinic is part of the multi disciplinary outpatient medical
facility located within the James A Haley Hospital. This clinic provides care to patients
in need of rheumatological evaluation for the entire Tampa Bay area in addition to satellite
clinics in Orlando, Palm Harbor, and Fort Myers. The V.A. houses the woman’s center, which
adds to the wide variety of rheumatic diseases seen. The rheumatology clinic has 8-9 exam
rooms, and all hospital facilities are available for providing the best medical care for
our patients. Some services that are provided by the V.A. are: physical therapy,
occupational therapy, and social services. (see above for full VA hospital services)
Overall, the V.A. outpatient clinic sees a complete spectrum of rheumatic and musculoskeletal
diseases. The VA hospital has a DEXA BMD scanner, and Dr Valeriano in the Rheumatology
Division supervises this service, and interprets the BMD tests. The medical record system
is fully electronic and state of the art. The CPRS chart system
The USF Medical Clinic
This clinic is mandated and run by the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
The USF clinic has a wide range of facilities for patient care. There is a full-scale
radiology department that can do all x-rays and sonograms. In addition, there are facilities
for EEG and EMG studies. CT and MRI tests can be done at University Diagnostics located less
than five minutes away from the clinic on the USF campus. An integral part of our Osteoporosis
studies is our onsite Hologic QDR 4500 DEXA BMD scanner. A stereoscope is located outside the
clinic exam rooms for performance of capillary microscopy. The clinic is in the process of
developing a fully electronic medical record FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
